wearing: Levi’s cropped 501s | Everlane slim cotton long sleeve crew |  Gap Trench current version

A classic trench coat is one of those pieces that looks classy and sophisticated even when thrown over jeans and a tee.  This must be why I’m a fan.  It’s effortless, and so chic with almost anything.  Dare I say it…  even leggings!

In this post, I am wearing a Gap trench coat that I purchased about 5 years ago, and still love.  It is a quality piece and Gap offers it in a small tall which is everything for me.  Who wants a coat with sleeves that are too short!  The struggle is soooo real for me with sleeve length.  Here is the current version from Gap.  It is still available in regular and tall and it is currently on sale!

  1. a classic trench coat elevates a simple, casual ensemble and is great with dressier looks too.
  2. a classic trench never goes out of style.
  3. this outerwear option is great for fall & spring (both sunny or rainy days).
  4. adding this long line outer layer elongates your frame, and is very slimming.  who isn’t into that idea!!!?
  5. a classic trench coat adds a strong dose of classy & sophisticated to your look instantly!

A classic trench coat is definitely something to consider when building your perfect for you wardrobe.  In fact, it will certainly be playing a central role in ‘Building your ideal spring wardrobe, part 2′ which is coming next week.  Don’t forget to email me or leave me a comment if you have any specific questions or topics you would like me to cover regarding the spring wardrobe topic.  Also, if you haven’t had a chance yet, be sure to check out  How to Build Your Ideal Spring Wardrobe {part 1}.

For now I’m going to leave you with a little round up of my favorite classic trench coats that are available now.

  1. Gap long-line trench coat   These are the kind of classic pieces Gap has always been known for.  I love that they offer this in tall, and that it is perfectly timeless.  This is options fully lined with the traditional dark buttons, button tab cuffs, and oversized collar.
  2. Everlane Drape Trench Coat   Everlane is probably my number one favorite place to shop.  Impeccable quality is a given every time.  This trench is a bit more modern with raglan sleeves and a slightly oversized fit and is made of 100% cotton twill with a cupro lining.  Still the dark buttons with the classic khaki which I love!
  3. J. Crew 2011 Icon Trench   This one is a little bit throw back but with modern updates.  A well made classic and that is stormy weather ready!
  4. Burberry Kensington Long Trench Coat   Total splurge.  It is gorgeous and has all  the classic styling I love in a trench coat.  All the affordable versions I seem to be drawn to are no doubt influenced by this highly coveted masterpiece.  The thing is… how many dogs and cats could we rescue with the money it would cost to buy this coat?   If I had this much cash to spend, I’d spend it on them (the pups & kitties)!
