“Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of imprisonment.”  – Alexander McQueen

This statement speaks to me on so many levels!  It reminds me of the different seasons of my personal style journey…it brings to mind the awareness that personal style is absolutely something that sets me free!  It is my passion and so it never feels like work.  When I find myself feeling anxious, I pull up my style boards on Pinterest and I can just scroll and scroll…soaking in my desired style aesthetic, refining my art, attending to new details, and birthing fresh ideas.  It is one of the few things that can slow my heart rate… draw my physical body & my mind out of that uncomfortable state of hyper vigilance!

This statement, along with lots of prayer & perseverance,  has been instrumental in helping me believe I am worthy of the chance to share my passion for style, and give my gift the time & attention required to make it my business.  I deserve to love what I do, and know it is a gift that God gave me to pass along and empower others.   Now… that still, small voice that is God  whispers to me daily.  “It is ok…keep going…I’m with you, and it will be better than you’ve imagined.” Amen!

On the flip side, McQeen’s quote doesn’t allow me to forget that I was sort of imprisoned back when I began my personal style blog.  I admit, I was a bit of a fashion victim at first.  Although I had a strong sense that I was following the masses and going against my style authenticity… I guess part of me was afraid that I wouldn’t make it in this industry if I didn’t do what others were doing.  Well, I could not have been more off base with that fear.  The truth is… leaning into myself, identifying what is unique to my personal style is what has set my work on fire!  My style is ultra simple, and it is only by embracing this simplicity…that I have experienced how fashion is truly my escape.

I’ve always been drawn to a very laid back, natural, confident, strikingly simple aesthetic…yet in the beginning of my journey I lacked an understanding of how much precision is necessary to actually create this vibe.   In understanding my own style, I have found so much freedom.   I want to help you do the same!
