I know what you are thinking… Is she serious??  What a loaded topic! It sure is a topic full of possibilities (both good & bad) that I believe leaves many of us in a position to share both experiences and support!   As with any human condition, awareness of common pitfalls, as well as encouragement and support can make all the difference in the world.  It is so important to be here for each other, to share what works and what doesn’t, to potentially save others from the same mistakes we’ve made, and to always…always fix each others crowns!  There is no excuse for anything less.

Such things as decelerated metabolism, droopy jowls, dimply buttocks & thighs…{wobbly bits…as Bridget Jones so eloquently termed this entirely unwelcome loss of skin tone}, and the blaring need for regular chiropractic visits are just a few of the unpleasant 40 something symptoms to which most of us can relate!   You gals with me so far?

There are some very  inevitable, unpleasant occurrences that coincide with aging and affect us physically, spirituality and psychologically.  On the flip side, though, we must remind each other of all the delightfully positive changes that come with reaching ‘a certain age’…such as  confidence, self awareness, enduring interpersonal relationships, a greater degree of financial stability and the list goes on.   At times, it is easy to fall into the trap of believing that dreams not yet realized, are dead and gone. We are tempted to believe that this is it… nothing more will be added unto us at this later stage.  This is not the truth! It is not too late to go to med school, to reach your goal weight and start eating healthy, finally build the wardrobe of your dreams, start a blog, or to explore anything your heart desires.  I feel a strong pull to create community and encourage other women who share my passions, convictions and… insecurities (let’s face it, most of us are battling anxiety, and disappointment on some level).  It is the coming together and learning we are not alone that fosters our ability to overcome obstacles, appreciate where we are, and experience times of true joy.

It is in these truths that I’ve discovered my purpose for blogging.  My passion for personal style and beauty, my abiding love for Jesus, and my gift of encouragement converge here to conceive “the heart diaries”.   There are not a ton of blogs geared towards women in their 40’s yet it is a time when we so desperately need community and connection with other like minded women.   As the purpose for my next chapter comes to light, it seems like the perfect time to open up about the struggles and victories we all experience as our lives evolve.  I’m not going to say as we age.  I’m going to say as our lives evolve!

  1. Feed your body clean, healthy food.  What we put into our bodies shows up on the outside especially as our lives evolve.  Take the time to learn what keeps your body feeling best and what helps you function optimally.  For example, I consume minimal sugar, no dairy or refined carbs, and my diet is plant based with the exception of some wild caught seafood.  This is what my body requires for healthy glowing skin.  I’m not advocating for any particular type of diet, rather I’m encouraging you to do some research and determine what will keep you looking and feeling your best!
  2. Get moving.  Be sure to do some type of exercise at least 4 times a week (every day is even better).   Choose the activity you enjoy most so that you will want to continue, and so that it is replenishing and serves as a release.
  3. Know and love your tribe.  Be ruthless about who you let close.  A small inner circle made up of people who light you up, encourage you, inspire you,  share your deepest convictions, and make you laugh is one of the greatest blessings in life.  Keep your intuition tuned in and when you meet someone who you believe belongs in your tribe, tell them and make the effort. It could be life changing.
  4. Re evaluate your beauty routine.  This one is big.  The short of it is that somewhere around 39 or 40, I had to change things up a lot.  One of the major quandaries I faced was that my skin needed more moisture, and any kind of powder foundation was no longer an option.  I’m not going to pretend the process of changing and finding the right products wasn’t stressful, but I promise it was worth it!   It took me about a year to try out a bunch of new concoctions and find my favorites.   I’m thrilled with all of the ones I chose, and now I can share them with you in a post coming soon!  Don’t panic and hide your beauty, and remember that less is often more!  For now, I’ll leave you with two of my favorite (life changing) products for the face.  I use  Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré as a moisturizer morning and night.  This magic elixir is paraben free, fabulous under make up, and literally makes your skin glow!  The other game changer for me is BareMinerals Complexion Rescue.  This is actually a tinted moisturizer with SPF 30, but I think it goes on more like a light foundation.  This liquid gold, blurs imperfections and enhances natural radiance which, for me, is the holy grail!  As you’ve probably concluded already, the combination of  Embryolisse and Complexion Rescue more than resolved the dry skin issue, and leaves my skin looking youthful and radiant.  I have acne prone skin, and both of these products keep my complexion calm and clear!
  5. Simplify your wardrobe.   Simplify in general, but if you are reading a style blog I bet you are like me.  Style is central to who you are and when you feel satisfied with how you look,  you are just plain happier!  Now that your life has evolved (laughs) you probably have better idea of the outfit formulas you prefer.  Pay close attention to this and don’t hold onto any items that don’t make you feel great.  Doing so creates frustration, and both physical & mental clutter that hold you back! If you haven’t already, take a look at my How to Build Your Ideal Wardrobe Series here & here.  There will be a fall addition coming soon, but the spring editions also cover, in depth, how to pinpoint your personal style and the steps to creating the perfect for you wardrobe!

There is one more thing that I consider more important than absolutely everything, and I believe it is the foundation for all that we are and meant to become.  It is prayer, and having a true relationship with God.  Daily chats with Jesus are what sustain me in  all seasons and if I didn’t have this relationship,  I wouldn’t have the clarity and blessings that have gotten me to this point. I don’t believe in forcing my faith on others, but I’m not at all ashamed to share my abiding love for & faith in Jesus Christ.  Although I don’t directly mention it often here on the blog, I believe it is evident in all that I do.

I hope you have found this comforting and encouraging.  If you have any questions or just want to share you perspective or experience, I would love to hear from you!  Drop me a line in the comments below or shoot me an email at diaridicuore@gmail.com.   Thank you and God Bless!
